Welcome to Prince Andrew School Sixth Form
The Sixth Form at Prince Andrew offers students the opportunity to mature and progress both academically and in terms of personal development. It offers them the chance to gain qualifications which lead to career and Higher Education opportunities both on island and overseas.
Students wishing to further their education at 16+ may stay on into the Sixth Form, following two learning pathways: academic or vocational (or sometimes a combination of both).
Courses currently on offer to Sixth Form Students cover a range of qualifications from A/S and A2, to Level 3 Diplomas and VRQ qualifications. Some of the courses are offered by distance learning, others by the island’s Adult and Vocational Centre.
A/S & A2 and Level 3 Diploma
- Business Studies
- English Literature
- Building and Construction
- Automotive Studies
All students participate in SES. The course is tailored to the needs of the students and focuses on personal development, community involvement and advice and guidance in careers and Higher Education. A number of students follow the ASDAN Universities Award course.
Whole School Involvement
In addition, all academic students are expected to ‘give back’ to the school. This may be for example assisting teachers in lessons, peer counselling or working with individual students. Students are also encouraged to participate in PE and Enrichment.
Academic students are also offered the opportunity to learn about the world of work. Here, depending on their courses of study, they are placed with employers who can provide them with relevant on the job training. Recent placements have been with the St Helena National Trust, a major retailer on the island, the Bank of St Helena, the ICT and the Legal, Lands and Planning Departments.
Vocational students spend 3-4 days in the workplace. Here they develop the practical skills in automotive engineering or building and construction that they have been taught in school.
